A proof copy of Michael Barbers's forthcoming
unauthorised biography of Powell has arrived.
I've not read it as it has to go straight on to one of the Society's trustees for review in the next
AP Society Newsletter,
but I have dipped ito it.
First impressions are of a thorough, well written work;
certainly the couple of chapters I've read have been most enjoyable
and have already produced a number of new ideas and juxtapositions of which I was unaware.
Sadly I shall have to curb my enthusiasm to read the whole book until later,
but I can quite foresee it will be one of those
increasingly rare "can't put it down" reads.
Anthony Powell, A Life
is published by Duckworth on 01 July 2004
and can be pre-ordered from
Amazon UK.
Simon Barnes's column in The Times of Friday 21 May was about the London Olympic Committee and clubability. Needless to say, as Barnes so often does, he managed to work in a reference to Dance. Click here to see the article. |
