Powell and Dance on BBC Radio 4   June 29, 2005 10:59

As some may already know BBC Radio 4 are to broadcast a half hour radio documentary about Powell and Dance. This is scheduled for the morning of Thursday 7 July at 1130 hrs. The announcement in Radio Times says:
11.30 FM only Dancing to the Music of His Time
Anthony Powell's 12-novel sequence A Dance to the Music of Time is one of the great literary works of the 20th century. Covering a span of more than 70 years and with a cast of more than 300 characters, it's also one of the longest. To mark the centenary of Powell's birth in 1905, the geneticist Steve Jones, a lifelong fan, revisits the Dance novels and looks at the life of the man who wrote them. He talks to admirers, including the novelists Ian Rankin and AS Byatt, and the writer and activist Tariq Ali.
Producer Thomas Morris Repeated on Sunday at 12.15am
As yet I can find no details of the broadcast on the BBC website.

Although I have talked to the producer and he came along to the last London pub meet, as far as I am aware no-one from the Society has been interviewed for the programme -- which is a pity.

For those outside the UK, BBC Radio 4 is available online at www.bbc.co.uk/radio4

Eton Exhibition   June 29, 2005 11:09

Eton College, Powell's alma mater have a small exhibition entitled Eton and After: Anthony Powell and His Contemporaries. Writing in the latest Society Newsletter, Chairman Patric Dickinson says:

The exhibition is the brainchild of the indefatigable Michael Meredith, College Librarian and active member of the Anthony Powell Society, who over the years has accumulated a remarkable collection of manuscripts and printed works relating to Old Etonian writers ... altogether a perfect curtain-raiser to the centenary celebrations. But it is more than that; it is a fascinating exhibition in its own right.

The exhibition runs till early September and is open Monday to Friday, 0930-1300 and 1400-1700hrs, although anyone planning to go is advised to ring Eton College Library (01753 671 221) to check opening times.
