Anthony Powell E-mail Discussion List [APLIST] - Charter

  1. APLIST is hosted by yahoogroups.com. All yahoogroups.com rules apply to this list and in the event of conflict they take precedence this charter. See www.yahoogroups.com for more information.
  2. APLIST is for discussion of the life and works of English author Anthony Powell and AP-related subjects.
  3. Postings are accepted only from members of the group, ie. you must be registered with yahoogroups.com and subscribed to APLIST to be able to post to the group. All attempted postings from non-subscribers will be rejected by the moderator(s). This is in order to protect the group from SPAM e-mail and viruses.
  4. APLIST is unmoderated. Attempted postings from non-subscribers are referred to the moderator(s) for action. The moderators also reserve the right moderate postings by, or ban, individual members; generally this will only be done where an email address is suspected of belonging to a spammer. All new members will however have their postings moderated for a short period after joining.
  5. Subscribers with more than one e-mail address (or whose ISP presents a different source address to the one commonly used) are encouraged to set up their other address(es) as aliases to their yahoogroups.com registration. This saves unnecessary moderatorial activity and delay in messages being accepted/posted.
  6. Subscribers are responsible for their Yahoo Groups and APLIST registrations. You are advised to keep the email you are sent on joining this group and to familiarise yourself with managing your registration via the www.yahoogroups.com website. Please try to avoid asking the moderator to amend your registration for you.
  7. Postings must be of possible relevance and interest to the whole group and should be in some way related to Anthony Powell. Discussions between individual members, which are not of general interest, are discouraged and should be conducted via private e-mail. Postings of virus alerts etc. are not permitted.
  8. Concision in postings is also encouraged. Postings should be in plain text. Postings in MIME or HTML format are very strongly discouraged as many e-mail readers are unable to handle these formats.
  9. When replying to a posting please do not insert the whole of the original message in your reply as this serves only to unnecessarily increase the size of postings. However, relevant snippets of the original, to assist with context, are encouraged.
  10. BINARY attachments are not allowed (and will be discarded by the yahoogroups server) as many subscribers receive their mail over relatively slow dial-up lines. Anyone seeking to share relevant binaries should either offer to e-mail them directly to interested persons, or seek advice from the list owner/moderator.
  11. Commercial advertising is not permitted. Small, discreet, advertisements from private individuals (eg. offering AP books for sale) will be permitted providing they do not become intrusive.
  12. While it is hoped that it is never necessary to stoop so low, in the last resort the owner/moderator's decisions are final and binding.
